Lighter ship identified as FARDIN-1, loaded with some 600 tons of coal sank in Mongla port, Bangladesh, after she collided with, according to local news sources, bulk carrier HANDY PERTH, in the evening Nov 15. Three out of six crew of lighter ship went missing. Lighter ship completed coal loading from berthed German freighter and was under way, HANDY PERTH was also under way, maneuvering to leave the port. It was said, that lighter ship simply didn’t notice moving HANDY PERTH, and moved right to HANDY PERTH bow.
HANDY PERTH left Mongla shortly after accident, sailed downstream and anchored in Bay of Bengal off Kunga river mouth. As of morning Nov 16, she was in the same area either anchored or already under way, status “For Order”, probably waiting for investigation results.
